Watershed Delineation
Background and Implications
The purpose of this project was to extract different hydrological features from a DEM. I delineated a watershed by filling the sinks in the DEM and calculating flow direction and flow accumulation. With this information I was able to output watershed boundaries and calculated streams based on a given threshold value for the area. As you can see on the maps above, the threshold value for both Moab and Rock Canyon would need to be decreased in order for the calculated streams to reflect the real streams in these areas. I chose to look at these two areas as they're places I frequently visit.
The Model
I created a model that used the polygon counties layer, a polyline stream layer, and a 30m DEM for each area from the state GIS website. Threshold values were between 5,000 and 10,000 and can be easily adjusted as their own parameter.
